2024 Tasmanian State Election Joint Statement on Poker Machines in Tasmania

We, the undersigned, call on all parties and candidates to commit to making poker machines safer for all consumers by:

1.                 1,      completing the implementation of the universal, pre-commitment card with the below four essential features (recommended by the Tasmanian Liquor and Gaming Commission:

•         Binding pre-commitment with default loss limits.
•         Applies to all people using poker machines.
•         A single system across all venues.
•         A single card per person.

2.         Introducing safer machine design features, including:

o          $1 bet limits;

o          Slower spin speeds (six seconds);

o          Prohibiting ‘losses disguised as wins;’

o          Smaller jackpots;

o          Higher return to player; and

  o          Reduced opening hours for poker machine venues.
