Cyclists should target arriving at 1st Nosh Stop at Mt White at 9:10am.  If you are slow, start early.  If ya fast, start by above times.

If driving to Berowra Start, take 2nd off-road from Freeway, and turn R into Old Pacific H'way to Berowra station carpark 1km further Nth.

1st Leg: Hornsby to Mt White Village Store - 35km - 95 min

Park in Jersey St Hornsby street-side car-park 80m Nth of Railway Hotel - N/W side of Hornsby station

Rollout by 7:35am depending on your speed -

2nd Leg: Mt White to Somersby General Store - 24.5km (59.5m) - 75 min

9:45am -

  • Nth up Old Pacific H'way for 6.2km to Calga Interchange

  • R twds Gosford along the "Scenic Route" for 4.3km to Mooney Mooney Creek

  • Ahead uphill for 6.5km to "Wisemans Ferry / Gosford Roundabout" for Sag Stop (5 min) off-the-road

  • L into Wisemans Ferry Rd for 7.5km to Somersby General Store (4372.1269ph) for a 2nd Nosh Stop (30 min) - good burgers from 11am.

3rd Leg: Somersby General Store to Mt White - 30.1km (89.6m) - 80 min

By 11:30am -

  • L along Wisemans Ferry Rd for 200m

  • L down "on-ramp" along Peats Ridge Rd for 9.3km to United Gas Peats Ridge.

  • Sth down Peats Ridge Rd for 14.5km to Calga Interchange

  • L (at "Scenic Road" sign to Brooklyn) and continue 6.1km returning to Mt White Village Store for Sag Stop [10 min] from 12:50pm.

4th Leg: Mt White to Pie in the Sky - 16.1km (106km) - 40 min

1pm descend Old Pacific H'way, cross Brooklyn Bridge over Hawkesbury River, pass Brooklyn Rd [103km] and ascend 3.9km for 3rd Nosh Stop at Pie in the Sky [25 min] from 1:40pm.

5th Leg: Pie in the Sky to Hornsby - 19.3km (125.5km) - 55 min

2:05pm Sth down Old Pacific H'way -

  • pass Berowra [115km] around 2:20pm, and

  • return to Hornsby, taking R fork at Asquith, continuing along Old Pacific H'way [125.5km] at 3pm.

Risk Warning
Ø    Hardcopy these directions and bring on Sunday

Ø    Expend 5 min studying your street directory for this route, if you haven't ridden it before

Ø    Don't ride two abreast on single lane roads with an unbroken centre line and descend corners on wet roads as though you are skating on ice

Ø    When passing a fellow Mugg, always provide a metre clearance.  If you can't, or are passing on the inside, you MUST call out loudly eg. "passing inside" etc

Some forms of cycling are dangerous.  An ave of 36 Australian cyclists have been killed annually since 2000.  95% of these fatalities occur on the road

Other cyclists in Australia break bones and incur nerve impairment from falling off their bikes in accidents. 

A cyclist could fall from his/her bike, inter alia, due to -
(i)      being hit by a car or another cyclist; or
(ii)     encountering a pothole;

(iii)    cycling too fast on a wet downhill where the coefficient of friction is much less, particularly at corners; or
(iv)    getting their bicycle wheel caught in a gap in a timber bridge.

A negligent cyclist could -

(a)    be litigated by a seriously injured cyclist, or 3rd party (ie. a woman pushing a pram on a footpath or a car driver) under common law where the damages could exceed $500,000; and

(b)    lose his/her home if he/she did not have public liability insurance which covers their negligence whilst on a push bike.

A negligent cyclist who did not have personal injury insurance (ie self-employed without income protection cover) could struggle to meet regular outgo commitments.

A seriously injured cyclist could be awarded damages which a negligent cyclist could not afford to pay if the negligent cyclist -
(I)     did not have public liability insurance cover; and/or
(II)    did not possess valuable assets.

Ø     Cycling without Public Liability cover is as silly as driving without 3rd Party -
 join Bicycle NSW for PL insurance, so that all Muggs are better protected
